Known as Operation We Will Find You 2 (OWWFY2), this operation took place from May 20 to June 24 and targeted areas with high concentrations of critically missing children.
The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), in collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies across seven federal judicial districts and regions throughout the United States, conducted a nationwide operation spanning six weeks. This effort resulted in the discovery of 200 critically missing children, including endangered runaways and those abducted by noncustodial individuals.
“There are no words to describe the terror felt by missing children, their families, and their communities,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “I am grateful to the dedicated professionals of the U.S. Marshals Service and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who worked to find 200 critically missing children during this six-week operation, and who work every day to keep children safe.”
“One of the most sacred missions of U.S. Marshals Service is locating and recovering our nation’s critically missing children,” said USMS Director Ronald L. Davis. “This is one of our top priorities as there remain thousands of children still missing and at risk.”
Known as Operation We Will Find You 2 (OWWFY2), this operation took place from May 20 to June 24 and targeted areas with high concentrations of critically missing children. Children who go missing are often at serious risk, vulnerable to exploitation, child sex trafficking, abuse, and other crimes.
With support from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), OWWFY2 led to the rescue and removal of 123 children from dangerous circumstances. Additionally, law enforcement and child welfare agencies located and ensured the safety of 77 other missing children. Among the 200 children recovered, 173 were endangered runaways, 25 were categorized as otherwise missing, one involved family abduction, and one involved non-family abduction. The youngest child found was only five months old, and 14 children were located outside the city where they were reported missing. Notably, 57% of the recovered children were found within seven days of the USMS's involvement in their cases.
