A collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and The Neon Museum has launched an exhibition celebrating the brand's history in Las Vegas. Titled "Stories from Backstage: Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas", the exhibition, which opened on February 12, 2025, gives a never-before-seen look into the artistry and innovation that have made Cirque du Soleil a world-renowned entertainment force.

On display at City Hall’s Grand Gallery in downtown Las Vegas, this landmark exhibit is a first for both parties, marking the first-ever museum-curated showcase of Cirque du Soleil's costumes, artifacts, and behind-the-scenes secrets. The exhibition runs through May 1, 2025, and offers visitors an unprecedented view into the creative process behind the Las Vegas shows that have captivated audiences for over three decades.

The exhibit features more than 100 pieces from five of Cirque du Soleil’s current Las Vegas shows: Mystère, "O", Mad Apple, KÀ, and Michael Jackson ONE. Notable artifacts include the Spearmen shoes from KÀ, costumes from Mystère’s Red Bird, and wigs worn by synchronized swimmers from "O". Each piece tells the story of the meticulous craftsmanship, performance dedication, and evolving technology that have shaped these unforgettable spectacles.

“The Neon Museum is proud to showcase Cirque du Soleil in such an intimate, interactive way,” said Aaron Berger, Executive Director of The Neon Museum. “This exhibition is not just about the costumes and props. It’s about telling the stories of the artists behind the magic, providing visitors with an inside look at how these incredible performances come to life on stage. It’s a testament to how Cirque du Soleil has helped define the Las Vegas entertainment experience for over 30 years.”

The exhibition's curator, Sarah Hulme, deputy director of The Neon Museum, emphasizes the multi-layered experience visitors will have. "We’re not just displaying costumes—we’re revealing the evolution of costume design through new technologies like 3D-printed fabrics and high-tech materials. It's an immersive, vibrant journey through Cirque du Soleil's legacy in Las Vegas."

Visitors can explore a dynamic mix of materials, including fabrics, feathers, and measurement sheets, and get an up-close view of the artistry that often remains hidden behind the dazzling performances. The exhibition also underscores how Cirque du Soleil’s talent and innovation continue to intertwine with the cultural fabric of Las Vegas, a city known for pushing the limits of live entertainment.

Mike Newquist, Cirque du Soleil’s Chief Revenue Officer, praised the partnership, highlighting the significance of this exhibit as a cultural milestone. "Cirque du Soleil has always been about artistry and innovation," he said. "The Neon Museum has done an incredible job of preserving these pieces and helping us tell our story. This collaboration beautifully reflects our shared dedication to art, history, and community."

This exhibition for The Neon Museum, which has expanded its mission to not only preserve Las Vegas' rich history but also to showcase the city’s ongoing creative spirit. Visitors are invited to view the exhibition Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the added opportunity to experience the Duck Duck Shed program in April 2025, which will dive deeper into Las Vegas' architectural and cultural history.

As Cirque du Soleil continues to inspire audiences around the world, "Stories from Backstage" is a rare chance to understand the talent, creativity, and dedication that bring these world-class performances to life in the heart of Las Vegas.
