Vans celebrates decades influencing music and skate culture
Vans is turning up the volume on its iconic Old Skool™ silhouette with the launch of the Premium Old Skool Music Collection, a three-part capsule series inspired by the shoe’s enduring influence across music and skateboarding. Featuring bold prints, vibrant colors, and a premium build designed for modern comfort, the collection pays homage to three defining eras of music: the punk and hardcore scenes of the ’70s and ’80s, the Warped Tour-fueled energy of the ’90s and 2000s, and the underground hip-hop movement of the 2010s.

A Legacy of Rebellion and Innovation
First introduced in 1977, the Old Skool™ (Style 36) was Vans’ second skate shoe and the first to feature the iconic Sidestripe™, a design that has become synonymous with the brand’s rebellious spirit. Over the decades, the Old Skool transcended skate culture, becoming a staple in underground music scenes worldwide. With the Premium Old Skool Music Collection, Vans celebrates this legacy while pushing the boundaries of style and comfort.
“The Old Skool has always been more than just a shoe—it’s a symbol of self-expression and non-conformity,” said a Vans spokesperson. “This collection honors the musicians and skaters who’ve made it an icon, while reimagining it for the next generation of cultural trailblazers.”
Three Capsules, Three Eras
The Premium Old Skool Music Collection will drop-in three-monthly installments, each inspired by a distinct musical era:
1. ’70s-’80s Punk Capsule (February 6): Bold leopard prints, and classic solid colorways pay tribute to the punk and hardcore musicians who first adopted the Old Skool as their go-to footwear.
2. ’90s-2000s Warped Tour Capsule (March 6): Nostalgic checkerboard patterns, two-tone designs, and flame prints capture the Y2K energy of the Warped Tour era.
3. 2010s Hip-Hop Capsule (April 10): Vibrant colorways paired with gum soles reflect the underground hip-hop scene that took the Old Skool to new heights.
Premium Build for Modern Comfort
The collection features a reimagined Old Skool build, blending archival details with modern innovations. Key updates include:
Enhanced Cushioning: 30% biobased Sola Foam ADC insoles for all-day comfort.
Improved Fit: A more seamless design for a snug, supportive feel.
Archival Details: Glossy sidewalls, higher foxing tape, and throwback branding inspired by ’90s-era Vans footwear.
Musicians on the Frontlines
To bring the collection to life, Vans partnered with musicians who embody the brand’s “Off The Wall” ethos, including The Paranoyds, Baceprot, Little Simz, and Hi-Tech. These artists represent the raw emotion and boundary-pushing creativity that have defined the Old Skool’s journey through music and culture.
The Premium Old Skool Music Collection will be available starting February 6 at Vans retail locations and online at http://Vans.com. Each capsule will drop monthly, offering fans a chance to own a piece of Vans’ musical legacy.
