In February 2020, ten women in the Bahamas filed a lawsuit against Peter Nygård and his businesses, alleging rape and sex trafficking. As the case progressed, many more women added their voices to the claims. By December, Nygård was apprehended in Canada on charges from the United States, while he continues to refute all accusations.
The Investigation of Peter Nygård done by The Fifth Estate, explores the life of the fashion tycoon, who faces allegations of rape and sex trafficking from over 80 women, all of which he refutes. This series scrutinizes the high stakes involved for both him and the women who claim to have suffered at his hands.
Former fashion mogul Peter Nygård was labeled a "sexual predator" by an Ontario judge on Monday as he was handed an 11-year prison sentence for his crimes committed in Toronto. The 83-year-old’s actual time served will amount to just under seven years, factoring in credits for time already spent in custody. Nygård will be eligible for parole in two years. Justice Robert Goldstein, who oversaw the case, described Nygård as a "Canadian success story gone very wrong."
