The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, alongside JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), has announced the debut of a stunning new public art exhibit at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 7. Created by celebrated Brooklyn artist Ron Bass, the installation is set to enhance the travel experience with a distinctive New York flair. This new addition complements the ongoing development of Terminal 6, a cutting-edge $4.2 billion project currently underway.

Serving approximately 2,000 passengers daily through 13 domestic and international airlines, Terminal 7 will feature Bass’s work until 2026, when it will be decommissioned for the second phase of the $4.2 billion Terminal 6 construction.
The Terminal 6 project is a pivotal element of the Port Authority's $19 billion overhaul of JFK Airport, which includes two new terminals, the modernization of two existing ones, a new ground transportation center, and a streamlined roadway network.
Ron Bass, known for his eclectic mix of pop culture, street art, and fashion, brings his deep New York roots and dynamic style to this unique airport setting for the first time. This installation is part of a broader initiative by Vantage Group and the Port Authority to infuse JFK’s transformation with authentic artistic flair. Additionally, 18 artists, including 10 from NYC, have been chosen to contribute sculptures, installations, and other art forms to the new Terminal 6.
"Across the region, the Port Authority is transforming its airports with new award- winning, world-class terminals that are filled with inspiring works of art," said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole. "As we have done at Newark Liberty International Airport's Terminal A and at the new LaGuardia Airport, we will transform JFK International Airport into a great global gateway with terminals that incorporate inspirational public art, operational excellence, 21st century technology and world-class functionality."
"New York is the cultural capital of the nation, so there is no better way to create a unique sense of place at the nation's busiest international gateway than by including original, inspiring works of public art at Kennedy Airport," said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. "Whether at our existing terminals or soon at the new terminals that are currently under construction, we are elevating the passenger experience with stunning works of public art that enhance the journey from curb to gate."
"We are constantly looking at how we can further improve the passenger experience at Terminal 7 and reinvigorate the space. Our aim was to ensure that travelers and employees alike felt New York's vibrant, uplifting spirit as soon as they entered our building – and we knew that Ron Bass was the perfect artist to do this," said Karen Ali, Chief Operating Officer at JFK Millennium Partners.
Travelers passing through JFK Airport's Terminal 7 can now immerse themselves in the vibrant artistic essence of New York City with four interactive murals. Located in key spots throughout the terminal, the murals invite passengers to engage with the city’s creative pulse before their flights:
- "Dear NY" – Arrivals area
- "Unified" – Near gates 7/8
- "I (really) LOVE NY" – By the Currency Exchange near gates 5/6
- "Destination: New Heights" – Gate 9
"This is a huge honor for me to partner with JFK Millennium Partners at Terminal 7. It's my hometown -- my foundation," said artist Ron Bass. "I wanted to create a free- flowing and abstract New York story. A story that is vibrant, engaging, fun, and representative of the diverse cultures, art, sound, taste, and feel of my beloved city. I'm approaching this body of work as a first line of defense for the many travelers arriving to visit NYC, as well as paying homage to all the employees and staff, residents, and natives returning home. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the word 'LOVE' will be present physically and emotionally, and that is my gift to everyone who comes across this four-piece collection."
Terminal 7 serves a diverse range of airlines, including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, and many others.
The Port Authority’s commitment to public art is a cornerstone of its redevelopment strategy, exemplified by successful projects at LaGuardia and Newark-Liberty airports. This focus on art aims to enhance the passenger experience at JFK, which is undergoing a major transformation.
The JFK Vision Plan, launched in January 2017, aims to turn JFK into a premier global gateway. Significant milestones include the groundbreaking of the $9.5 billion New Terminal One in September 2022 and the $4.2 billion Terminal 6 in February 2023. The $1.5 billion expansion of Terminal 4 and the $400 million expansion of Terminal 8 have also been completed, further enhancing the airport's infrastructure.
The overall $19 billion redevelopment of JFK, driven by a mix of public and private investments, underscores a major public-private partnership, with the Port Authority contributing $3.9 billion and leveraging nearly $15 billion in private funds for the project's completion.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has been a cornerstone of the nation’s transportation and trade infrastructure for over 100 years. This bi-state agency oversees a vast network that includes major airports, key bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, and the East Coast’s busiest seaport. Its facilities handle the movement of hundreds of millions of people and essential goods annually.
Additionally, the Port Authority owns and manages the 16-acre World Trade Center campus, which serves as a hub for tens of thousands of office workers and attracts millions of visitors each year.
