Between March 2016 and September 2020, Antonio M. Strong, a 31-year-old man from Lansing, Illinois, admitted to participating in a nationwide wire fraud scheme that defrauded businesses and individuals across the United States.
The total loss amounted to $2,299,842. Antonio collaborated with Herbert Wright aka G Herbo (a popular hip-hop artist), Joseph Williams, Demario Sorrells, and others to illegally use payment card information to acquire various luxury items and services, such as private jet and yacht charters, designer puppies, and more.
The cardholders noticed the transactions on their accounts and raised disputes against the charges. As a result, their payment card companies reversed the payments and charged back the transactions to the businesses and individuals involved, causing them to incur losses from the unauthorized transactions.
During this period, Strong portrayed himself as a rap promoter operating in the Chicago region. To carry out the fraud, he utilized multiple fake names and aliases, forged driver's licenses, used email accounts under both fictitious and real business names, and falsely claimed affiliations with companies like "Universal Music," "Sony Music," and "Epic Music."
Strong admitted to a single charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four charges of wire fraud. His sentencing is set for Sept. 19, with a potential 20-year prison term for each offense. The final decision on his punishment will be made by a federal district court judge, who will take into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
Wright, Williams, and Sorrells have all admitted their guilt in a single charge of conspiring to commit wire fraud. Wright's sentencing took place on January 11, resulting in three years of probation and a hefty payment of $139,968 for restitution and forfeiture. Williams is set to face sentencing on June 28, while Sorrells will have their fate determined on August 29. Additionally, two more individuals involved in the conspiracy were indicted in October 2020, and their trial is slated to commence on October 21.
