Isak Andic, the visionary founder of the Spanish fashion brand Mango, has tragically passed away at the age of 71 following an accident. The company confirmed his unexpected death on Saturday, with CEO Toni Ruiz expressing deep sorrow in a statement. Though the exact circumstances of the incident were not disclosed, Spanish media outlets, including La Vanguardia, reported that Andic died after a fall while hiking near Barcelona.
Andic’s passing has sent shockwaves through the global fashion industry. Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, paid tribute to the entrepreneur, praising his "hard work and business vision" that transformed Mango from a local Spanish brand into one of the world’s leading fast fashion retailers.
Born in Turkey, Andic and his family moved to Spain at a young age. In 1984, he opened the first Mango store in Barcelona, marking the beginning of what would become an international fashion empire. Over the decades, Andic guided Mango’s expansion, helping the company grow into one of Europe’s top fashion brands. Today, Mango operates over 2,700 stores in 120 markets worldwide, and it posted record sales of 3.1 billion euros ($3.2 billion) in 2023.
The company’s continued growth includes plans to expand in the U.S., with a target of 65 stores by the end of 2025.
Following Andic’s death, more than 3,000 Mango employees gathered at the Mango Campus for a heartfelt ceremony to honor their founder. Family members, company management, and CEO Toni Ruiz attended the emotional event, celebrating Andic’s extraordinary leadership and legacy.
Toni Ruiz addressed the crowd, reflecting on Andic's contributions and expressing determination to carry forward his founder’s vision. "He was a visionary, a leader, a great companion in the lives of all who knew him," said Ruiz. "No matter how far he had come, his mind was always focused on the next step. That is why we will follow his example, we will do it for him, for Mango, and we will do it as he would want: with a smile and all our energy."
Jonathan Andic, a member of the Andic family, also spoke during the ceremony, vowing to continue his father’s legacy. "This is just the beginning: let us continue to honor his memory and legacy, keeping alive the values and teachings he left us," he said. "May his example inspire us to be better every day and to continue building the Mango of the future together."
Andic’s death marks the end of an era for Mango, but his impact on the company and the fashion industry will endure for generations to come.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
