The Maryland State Police Crash Team is spearheading the investigation into this incident, leaving no stone unturned. It was suspected that the suspect vehicle involved is a Freightliner truck, carrying a flatbed with a forklift.
Maryland State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic hit-and-run incident that took place in a work zone in Montgomery County. The victim, Eric Lewis, a 57-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical service personnel from Montgomery County.
Responding to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack arrived at the scene near Georgia Avenue on eastbound Interstate 495 earlier this morning, just before 10:15 a.m.
Initial findings from the investigation reveal that Lewis was part of a crew working for a mobile tree trimming operation contracted through the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
Tragically, while working on the shoulder of I-495, Lewis was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound into the work zone. Shockingly, the vehicle responsible for the collision did not remain at the scene.
The truck involved in the tragic hit-and-run incident in Montgomery County has been found by the Maryland State Police. They have also successfully identified the driver responsible for the incident as Jadien Ranard Jones, a 39-year-old resident of Henrico, Virginia. Jones was operating a white 2021 Freightliner straight truck at the time of the crash. As the investigation continues, charges are pending.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team located the truck at The Home Depot Distribution Center in Sparrows Point, Maryland. They were able to make contact with the driver, who was later confirmed to be Jones. The outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office will determine the charges to be filed. Rest assured, the investigation is actively ongoing.
