From the creators of Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks Animation brings to life the popular Dog Man book series with a fun-filled, action-packed film adaptation. Based on the New York Times bestselling series by Dav Pilkey, Dog Man is set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
The story follows a heroic hybrid character who’s part dog, part man, and all heart. When a brave police dog and his human partner are injured on the job, a quirky but life-saving surgery fuses them together—creating the ultimate crime-fighting canine. Enter Dog Man, a unique and lovable hero who’s sworn to serve, protect, and… fetch.
As Dog Man tries to prove himself to his skeptical Chief (Lil Rel Howery), he faces off against Petey the Cat (Pete Davidson), a feline supervillain with evil plans to clone himself, creating a miniature evil version, Lil Petey, to multiply his troublemaking powers. However, things take an unexpected turn when Lil Petey forms an unlikely bond with Dog Man—sparking a new alliance between the two enemies.
When Lil Petey is kidnapped by a common foe, Dog Man and Petey must team up for a high-octane rescue mission. Along the way, they discover that family and unexpected friendships—even between enemies—can help heal even the most hardened hearts.
The star-studded voice cast includes Isla Fisher as TV reporter Sarah Hatoff, Poppy Liu as Petey’s assistant Butler, and Stephen Root as Grampa. The film also features Billy Boyd as Sarah’s cameraman Seamus, and Ricky Gervais as Flippy the Fish.
Dog Man is directed by Emmy-winning Peter Hastings, known for his work on The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants and Animaniacs. The film is produced by Karen Foster, co-producer of How to Train Your Dragon.
Launched in 2016, Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man series has become a global phenomenon, with over 60 million copies in print and translations in 47 languages. The series, which includes 12 books, continues to top bestseller lists, including Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea, which was the #1 bestselling children’s book in the U.S. in 2023.
Fans can also look forward to Pilkey’s newest book in the Dog Man series, Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, set for release on December 3, 2024.
Dog Man is set to be distributed by Universal Pictures, making its big-screen debut on January 31, 2025.
