Boar’s Head has significantly broadened its recall, now encompassing 7 million pounds of deli meat products following revelations that its Strassburger Brand Liverwurst is connected to a nationwide listeria outbreak. The recall now includes all items produced at the company’s Jarratt, Virginia facility, where the contaminated liverwurst originated. The expanded list includes not only deli meats but also pre-packaged products such as Boar’s Head Hot Unsmoked Sausage, Cooked Bratwurst, Uncured Beef Knockwurst, Uncured Beef Frankfurters, and Uncured Cocktail Beef Frankfurters.
Initially, on July 26, Boar’s Head recalled 207,528 pounds of various products, including liverwurst, ham, roasted bacon, bologna, and salami, following a positive listeria test from a sample of liverwurst at a Baltimore-area deli. Health officials are still investigating the potential link between these products and the ongoing listeria outbreak.
Boar’s Head has advised customers to either discard the affected products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. For a complete list of recalled items, please refer to the company's recall notice.
Listeria bacteria, which can cause listeriosis—a severe infection particularly hazardous for young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems—has led to an urgent recall of Boar’s Head deli meats. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The recall affects counter-sliced deli meats with specific packaging details:

- **Boar’s Head ITALIAN CAPPY STYLE HAM**; sell-by date “AUG 10”

- **Boar’s Head BOLOGNA**; sell-by date “AUG 10”
- **Boar’s Head BEEF SALAMI**; sell-by date “AUG 10”
- **Boar’s Head STEAKHOUSE ROASTED BACON HEAT & EAT**; sell-by date “AUG 15”
- **Boar’s Head GARLIC BOLOGNA**; sell-by date “AUG 10”
- **Boar’s Head BEEF BOLOGNA**; sell-by date “AUG 10”
Due to the difficulty in verifying the packaging of sliced deli meats from behind the counter, and with the investigation still ongoing, Dr. James E. Rogers, director of food safety and testing at CR, advises individuals in high-risk groups to refrain from consuming any sliced deli meats.
“Dispose of any sliced deli meats purchased since June 14 and avoid eating any until further information is provided,” Rogers recommends.
