Attorney General Files Charges Against DARCARS Honda for Consumer Protection Violations

Updated: Sep 16

The Statement of Charges alleges that DARCARS Honda engaged in unfair and deceptive practices throughout their new vehicle sales process

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced last week, that his Consumer Protection Division has filed formal charges against DARCARS of Bowie, Inc., operating as DARCARS Honda, along with its parent company, Mariam, Inc., and company owners John Rahmangholi Darvish and Jamshyd Darvish. DARCARS Honda, located at 2260 Crain Highway in Bowie, Maryland, is accused of violating Maryland’s Consumer Protection Act.

The Statement of Charges alleges that DARCARS Honda engaged in unfair and deceptive practices throughout their new vehicle sales process, including:

- Imposing an additional 2% fee on vehicle sales, labeled as a “sales commission” but misleadingly described as “optional,” despite it not being a commission and consumers not being informed they could refuse the fee.

- Charging customers more than the advertised price of vehicles, including hidden costs for installed equipment and dealer markups.

- Illegally financing added products, such as the “DARCARS Assurance” and “DARCARS Protection Plan.”

- Forcing unwanted equipment and products into vehicle sales transactions.

- Failing to properly disclose and itemize all goods and services, including their costs, as required by Maryland law.

The Consumer Protection Division is seeking an injunction to halt these alleged practices, along with restitution, economic damages, penalties, and coverage of legal costs. A hearing on the matter is scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 8, 2024, at the Office of Administrative Hearings, located at 11101 Gilroy Rd, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.

Consumers seeking more information can contact the Consumer Protection hotline at (410) 528-8662 or toll-free at (888) 743-0023.
